Impact on wider community

Global storylines artwork from pupils

Our Global Storyline project research demonstrated that 40% of participating schools had been actively raising awareness around global development issues prior to their chosen classes implementing the Global Storyline.

At the end of Year 2, 65% had organised an awareness-raising event for the wider community around the issues that the pupils had been exploring through the Global Storylines. From interviews with Head Teachers there is strong evidence that pupils are extending the learning into the community and there has been parental involvement.

“These children have awareness and a depth of understanding about these important world issues... everything that we do affects people all other the world... It has fitted so beautifully into curriculum for excellence because it has encouraged the children to work independently, to work more collaboratively and to take on roles and responsibilities so that they can share knowledge and understanding.” Head Teacher
